Vacancy Details

Our year out industrial placement programme provides undergraduate Engineering students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the specialisms of Mechanical and Fluid Systems, Avionics, Structures, Stress, Flight Dynamics, Test Engineering as well as many other departments. The normal duration of the placement is sufficient to meet the university requirements for sandwich courses.

What you will learn

This is a hands-on placement working on live projects; although you will be closely supervised and supported you can expect a steep learning curve. For those who learn quickly and apply themselves, it is an unmatched real-life work experience working alongside some of the industry’s most respected engineers.

While you are here the opportunities can vary from working on initial bids to being part of a design team working on long or short term projects, with a view to delivering tasks against requirements. Having the hangers and aircraft on site will enable you to work closely with the on-ground engineers to help provide solutions to real time problems gaining you priceless experience. As the placement develops you will gain an understanding of different business areas and be able to take on more responsibility.
We are looking for dynamic, self-motivated engineers who can contribute and hold their own in a competitive industry and have the potential to work towards becoming chartered within their field of expertise once in a permanent position.

We generally only consider applications from second year aerospace or aero-systems engineering degree students, but depending on the modules we can accept applications for other engineering degrees. You will spend your third year here at the Cambridge Head office site with the opportunity to visit other sites in support of work related matters.

Beyond the placement

Like any industry Aerospace can be unpredictable, so we cannot guarantee you a permanent position after your graduation. However, if during your time with us you demonstrate a capability, aptitude and talent to become part of the team, we will consider the possibility of offering you full time employment if the opportunity arises to fulfil business demand.
